The only things parents and students can do is to make sure the student is at the TOP of the applicant pool so a college wants to attract them with the best financial aid.

As the parent of twin boys, I thought that they would get a lot more financial aid considering I’d have two in college at the same time. I was wrong. It didn’t make any difference. Also, the son who stayed in-state actually got more than the one who went to an out-of-state college. The one who needed it the most got the least amount of financial help. That was a shock.
