I have all my juniors take a college course in the summer before their senior year of high school. Some go kicking and screaming, but they get over it! :^) It's all about the strategy to get in.

Could not agree with you each more...I also wanted to throw one more element in the mix as well...the kids coming up through this era are more likely to be socially connected as well, which is a whole different type of learning. So, through Social Media, the world is getting smaller and smaller, but allows for them to learn more, beleive it or not, and do more with less.

Jude,
You are absolutely right. This is just another symptom of a society that won't let kids be kids. Adulthood comes way too soon for all of us and there are lessons to be learned in childhood that you need to build on when you become an adult. It will be like throwing our children to the wolves, in my opinion. That's why ALL parents need to stand up for their kids in this situation and help them to see what they will lose if they make this choice.

It is a bad idea. I had the three year conversation with my sophomore son a few months ago. I told min he would be able to make his own decision but he should sleep on the decision. Any advisor who would demand an instant answer should not be advising students.

He is only 19 years old (there are some freshman who are older than him). He would complete college by the time he is twenty years old. What's the rush? He will have the rest of his life to work long hours and have financial responsibility.

And, Zemsky talks about wasted time. Wasted time? Spending time in classes exposing him to subjects he would otherwise not be is wasted time? Having fun and enjoying college life is wasted time? I guess this is typical of a society where we dress up little girls and put them in pagents and shove our boys in organized sports before they even learn the concept of sharing.

I vote nah!
